Chelsea are set to offer contract extensions to both Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois in the coming months, as the club look to ensure two of their most crucial players remain in South West London for the foreseeable future.

There have been rumours regarding contract extensions for each of these players for some time now with Thibaut Courtois himself admitting he is waiting to be offered a fresh deal during the summer. Chelsea spent the transfer window focusing on arrivals and departures with the Diego Costa move to Atletico Madrid requiring particular attention, but now that the window has passed the club’s priority is now to ensure Eden Hazard signs a new long-term extension according to Goal, with a deal for Courtois to be sorted soon afterwards.

A new contract for Hazard would include a significant increase in salary despite the Belgian winger already being Chelsea’s highest paid player. Believed to be currently earning a weekly wage of £200,000, a new deal for Hazard is expect to be worth as much as £300,000-a-week plus bonuses.

Though Hazard may well be the priority, Chelsea will be mindful that they cannot wait much longer before increasing Courtois’ deal as the goalkeeper’s current terms expire in 2019 – a year earlier than Hazard’s. Courtois is also looking for a weekly wage increase of £100,000 with his current salary reportedly in the region of £120,000-a-week.

There’s no doubt that Marina Granovskaia, who is in charge of negotiating new contracts, will be prepared to offer these large salaries to two of Chelsea’s star players. Both Hazard and Courtois are among the world’s best in their respective positions and with that ability it is no surprise that clubs from around the continent have shown interest in their services. Real Madrid have been heavily linked with each of them at various points over the past few years meaning fresh contracts have become extra important for Chelsea in order to maintain control over their key men.

With the international break now upon us, like many other members of the squad Hazard and Courtois are both currently away with their national side. Though little can be known for sure until a decision is reached regarding a new deal, it is expected that negotiations with Hazard are likely to begin in the next few weeks.
