Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic has today completed his move to Manchester United.
After making 154 appearances for Chelsea, Matic has signed for United on an initial three-year deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £40 million.
The Serbian had two spells at Stamford Bridge having been bought back from Benfica three-and-a-half years ago, and it was during his second stint at the club that Matic won each of his trophies with the club; two Premier League titles and a League Cup.
The move means Matic has now reunited with Jose Mourinho, the man he won that first Premier League title with, and the 28 year-old admits that is a key reason for his departure. Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Matic said:
“I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.”
“I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them.”
The respect Matic has shown Chelsea with those comments has been reciprocated by the club who ended their announcement of the deal completion by thanking the Serbian for his service and wishing him well for the future.
