Chelsea have made a second bid of £4m for Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon, as Asmir Begovic confirms his desire to leave the club.
Celtic have already rejected a £2m offer from the Blues for Gordon, with the club intent to hold onto the keeper. The Londoners will be hoping the improved offer will cause more pause for thought.
The Blues are in urgent need of a new goalkeeper, with current second choice Begovic pushing for a move to Premier League outfit Bournemouth.
The Bosnian keeper made just his fifth appearance of the season in Saturday’s west London derby win against Brentford and is frustrated playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois.
Speaking to the Mirror, Begovic said:
“I have spoken with the boss – we are quite open about it, he knows I am desperate to play, and that’s all it is really.
“If he can make it happen for me he will. That is something that is going to be sorted out in the next couple of days.
“I’m 29 – 30 in the summer – and feel fantastic and in great shape. It would be a waste not to play and show people what I can do.”
“I hope that the team lifts the title and and maybe I will be part of that, but it is difficult when you don’t play for a certain amount of time. That overrides everything, your football.
“I like to play and I came here to challenge myself.”
Chelsea are believed to be extremely reluctant to let the Bosnian leave, however, Antonio Conte is attempting to put the wishes of the player first.
